Ye
Ting (September 10, 1896 – April 8, 1946) was one of the founders of the
National Revolutionary Army and an independent regiment commander in the Fourth
Army of the National Revolutionary Army. To commemorate Ye Ting’s 110th birthday
and the 60th anniversary of his death, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao
S.A.R. Government held a plaque unveiling ceremony in his old home (Rua
Almirante Costa Cabral, no. 76) yesterday morning. Macao S.A.R. Government Chief
Executive Mr. Edmond Ho officiated the ceremony, unveiling a plague with
inscriptions by Mr. Ma Man Kei, Vice-chairman of the People's Political
Consultative Conference of China. Ye Ting’s fourth son Ye Huaming and seventh
son Ye Zhengguang gave a talk on “Ye Ting and His Family in Macao” in which they
described Ye Ting’s family life in Macao during the 1930s.
Ye Ting was born in Guangzhou Province and had a
special attachment to Macao. From 1927 to 1942, the Ye family lived in a house
located at Rua Almirante Costa Cabral, no. 76. Seven of his nine children were
born in the house. During his stay in Macao, he was very much devoted to the
Sino-Japanese War and travelled frequently to Hong Kong and China. He stayed in
Macao until 1937 when he took up the post of army commander in the New Fourth
Army.
Ye Ting’s descendents who attended the ceremony
include his fourth son Ye Huaming, seventh son Ye Zhengguang, granddaughters Ye
Xiangyang and Ye Xiaomei, grandson Ye Tiejun and great-grandson Li Tianzhou.
Officiating guests include Macao S.A.R. Government Chief Executive Mr. Edmond
Ho, Vice-chairman of the People's Political Consultative Conference of China Ma
Man Kei, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in
the Macao S.A.R. Mr. Bai Zhijian, Second-in-Command of the People's Liberation
Army Macau Garrison Senior Colonel Zheng Weibo, Deputy Commissioner of the
Office of Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of People’s Republic
of China in the Macao S.A.R. Mr Huang Songfu, Secretary for Social Affairs and
Culture Dr. Chui Sai On and Vice-Chairman of the Guangdong Political
Consultative Conference Committee Ke Xiaogang.
After the ceremony, Ye Huaming presented a
souvenir “Commander Ye Ting’s Photo Album” to Mr. Edmond Ho and to Mr. Ma Man
Kei respectively. Some family photos of Ye Ting were also displayed in his old
home.
Subsequently, a talk entitled “Ye Ting and His
Family in Macao” was given in the Macao Museum by Ye Ting’s fourth son Ye
Huaming and seventh son Ye Zhengguang in which they described their
unforgettable family life in Macao.
