Source of Information : Cultural Affairs Bureau

The
Cultural Institute officially launched the website “Macao Heritage Net”
yesterday to keep the public up-to-date with Macao heritage conservation works
and to provide them with information to research Macao Heritage and World
Cultural Heritage. The launching of the website is a new move in the Cultural
Institute’s promoting Macao Cultural Heritage for the “2004 Macao Cultural
Heritage Preservation Year.”

The Internet is a new and powerful means of data transfer. The main aim of the
Cultural Institute’s establishing the “Macao Heritage Net” is to make use of the
convenient, easily accessible and interactive internet to introduce Macao
Heritage to the public and to promote cultural heritage conservation to achieve
its promotional and educational goals.

The “Macao Heritage Net” is a key to the understanding of Macao and China’s
cultural heritage conservation works. It is also a database for studying Macao
Heritage. Therefore, the website is structured to contain:

“News” for the public to have a better understanding of local and China’s
up-to-date information related to cultural heritage conservation;

“Macao Heritage”, which contains all the information on “The Historic
Monuments of Macao” and Macao’s other cultural heritage;

“Education and Promotion” that brings together articles, research, and
educational materials related to cultural heritage conservation and World
Cultural Heritage for reference;

“Resources” containing old photos of Macao and lots of links to heritage
related websites;

“Legislation” assembling local, China and international laws, charters
and declarations related to cultural heritage conservation.

The
“Macao Heritage Net” will continue to update and enrich its content to achieve
its goals. The Cultural Institute expects to employ the “Macao Art Net” as a
bridge leading the public into Macao’s colourful cultural heritage so as to
improve their understanding in Macao’s four hundred years of history. The
Institute also hopes to turn the “Macao Heritage Net” into a good way for
teachers to search for data and to download them for Macao’s education in
history and culture.
